The Refiner’s Fire
1 Peter 1:6,7 God’s power protects you through your faith, and it keeps you safe until your salvation comes. That salvation is ready to be given to you at the end of time. I know the thought of that is exciting, even if you must suffer through different kinds of troubles for a short time now. These troubles test your faith and prove that it is pure. And such faith is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. When your faith is proven to be pure, the result will be praise and glory and honour when Jesus Christ comes.
When you find yourself in a time of trial, a time when your faith is being put to the test, it’s not a lot of fun, and amidst the pain and the uncertainty, often, it doesn’t make a lot of sense either. Why is this happening to me? Me?!
I don’t know about you, but I don’t enjoy suffering. I mean, I don’t mind a bit of pain when I’m doing sprints on the exercise bike in the gym to keep fit and healthy. Fine. I know it’s doing me some good and it’ll be over pretty soon.
But serious pain, long term trials … no thank you!
When we’re suffering, it doesn’t seem to make much sense. But so often there’s stuff going on, stuff that God’s doing, that we lose sight of. One of the things He does is, that He tests our faith.

Your faith is incredibly precious to God and so He stress tests it and purifies it; makes it stronger, so that at the other end of the trial, you’ll be found with His praise on your lips.
That’s what’s going on. God is so much more interested in your character than He is in your comfort.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Audrey, it’s just not easy being sick and in pain. May the Lord hold you tight and bring you healing. In the meantime, trust in Him. He will get you through. Your brother in Christ, Berni.

Thank you, Bernie, for the ‘Fresh’ that talks about faith being better than gold. I’m suffering from arthritis in my neck and one hip is going to require a full hip replacement. I’m only 59. My job has caused these issues. But I continue to be in the word each day and hoping a little spark of what read or hear on the christian radio, including your message, will help me through the day.
Thank you for your words!
God Bless you.
