The Strength of Stillness

Isaiah 30:15 The Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, says, “If you come back to me you will be saved. Only by remaining calm and trusting in me can you be strong.”

We live in a world that entreats us to do more, to push harder, to fix it now. And we fall for it, time and time again. So, when things go wrong, our instinct is action – emails, calls, plans, solutions. But have you noticed? The more you scramble, the less peace you seem to have.

It’s like when your smartphone freezes – you start tapping, swiping, pressing buttons in frustration, doubtless just making it worse. Then you remember: just stop, wait, and let the thing reset.

Sometimes stillness fixes what striving can’t. That’s the very lesson God was teaching His people through the prophet Isaiah:

Isaiah 30:15 The Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, says, “If you come back to me you will be saved. Only by remaining calm and trusting in me can you be strong.”

The tribe of Judah was under threat from Assyria and instead of turning to God, they rushed to form alliances with Egypt. They trusted strategy over surrender, movement over meekness. But God’s offer was clear: Come back to Me. Rest. Trust. That’s where real strength lies – not in frantic control, but in quiet confidence that God is already at work.

So today, what situation has you perhaps panicking, or planning, or pushing? Maybe it’s time to stop fighting and start resting. Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do … is to be still before the God who’s already fighting for you.

The Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, says, “If you come back to me you will be saved. Only by remaining calm and trusting in me can you be strong.”

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
