The To-Do List

Luke 10:26-28 Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you understand from it?” The man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ Also, ‘Love your neighbour the same as you love yourself.’” Jesus said, “Your answer is right. Do this and you will have eternal life.”

Of everything you have to do today, which one is the most important one? What are you going to leave off your list and not get done today, to do that one thing that for you is the most important? Or haven’t you really thought about it?

Okay, so I have eighty-seven unopened emails, seventy-three items on my to-do list and I really, really need a haircut before I hop on that plane to South Africa for two weeks … and my wife wants me to head out this afternoon to have coffee with our daughter for her birthday. Sound familiar? We live in a world where “doing things” is seriously way out of control. We can be so busy that we miss the important stuff.

Someone once asked Jesus, “Of all the things I have to do, what’s the most important?” Good question. Here’s how it went down:

Luke 10:26-28 Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you understand from it?” The man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ Also, ‘Love your neighbour the same as you love yourself.’” Jesus said, “Your answer is right. Do this and you will have eternal life.”

In other words, put first things first; quiet times with God, serving Him in all you do, the fun that you have with your friends and family, the sacrifices you make for people in need. They’re the most important things in life.

What’s the matter with us that we think that ticking off the things on our to-do list is what’s most important … above and beyond say, stopping to spend an hour with your daughter on her birthday.

Get a revelation. Put first things first … when you do, everything else will fall into place.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
