Time Marches On

Psalm 103:15-16 He knows our lives are short, that they are like grass. He knows we are like a little wildflower that grows so quickly, but when the hot wind blows, it dies. Soon, you cannot even see where the flower was.

The constant ticking of the clock (proverbial though that may be in this digital age) and the constant marching on of time represents the single greatest reality of our lives – because one day our clock on this earth will stop ticking. Permanently.

Have you noticed how old many of the actors you used to watch in your younger years have become? You remember them as they were, frozen in time, but then you see them as they are today and it’s a real wakeup call. Because the very same thing is happening to you and me.

I look at my three adult children bringing up their children, working hard, doing all the things young parents do … and I’m pretty sure they don’t have the same sense of the passing of time as I do, with my head of grey hair.

They’re busy after all. But for me, it doesn’t feel all that long ago … just yesterday … that I was in their shoes. Time marches on ever so quickly, which is God’s point here:

Psalm 103:15-16 He knows our lives are short, that they are like grass. He knows we are like a little wildflower that grows so quickly, but when the hot wind blows, it dies. Soon, you cannot even see where the flower was.

Friend, with all my heart, let me say to you today, make your life count. Love with the most expansive, generous, unfailing love. Serve with the most incredible heart. Honour God with all that you have and all that you are. Make it count.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
