Treating Ugly Duckling Syndrome

Ephesians 2:10 God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do.

Do you find yourself, sometimes, comparing yourself to other people? Coming to the conclusion, perhaps, that you’ll never be as good as they are? Hmm?

There are so many people these days with a disease called “UDS – Ugly Duckling Syndrome”. You may be familiar with that wonderful children’s fable, written by, Hans Christian Anderson. It’s about the baby swan hatched, by accident, in a duck’s nest. He looked so ugly that everybody made fun of him because he didn’t look the way a duckling is supposed to look. They didn’t realise God had made him to become a beautiful swan.

There it is. “Ugly Duckling Syndrome”.

“I’m not pretty enough, I’m not smart enough. I’m not fast enough. I’m not rich enough, I’m not successful enough” – full of insecurities. Full of a certain knowledge that everyone else is better than them, that they don’t match up.

And so, they swallow pills by the bucket load to try and cope. They see therapists, but to no avail. They lead miserable lives. All because of “UDS – Ugly Duckling Syndrome”.

But there is a sure-fire treatment for “UDS”. It’s something that God wants to speak deep into your heart today.

Ephesians 2:10 God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do.

You have been exquisitely handcrafted by God, specifically to do the good things that He prepared for you to do, even before time began. Who you are and the life set out before you, are made to fit like a hand in a glove.

Swallow that, believe that, and “UDS – Ugly Duckling Syndrome” is a thing of the past.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
