Troubles that Test Your Faith

1 Peter 1:7 These troubles test your faith and prove that it is pure. And such faith is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. When your faith is proven to be pure, the result will be praise and glory and honour when Jesus Christ comes.

Can I ask you today to think back to the most testing time you’ve ever faced in your life? The most difficult trial. The toughest situation you’ve ever known. As you reflect on that time, what emotions does it conjure up for you?

My toughest time was over 30 years ago when my first wife left me for one of my best friends. It was just awful. Though it’s a long time ago now, the wound’s healed, the scar remains. When I think back on that time there’s still a sadness there.

That’s only natural, I guess. But there’s something else there too. I made it through. In fact, not only did I make it through, but through it, God made me who I am today. It was in the middle of that apocalypse that I came face to face with Jesus.

So, what’s the upside of the tough times you’ve been through? How has God changed you for the better?  What do you see and understand today that you wouldn’t be able to, had you not travelled that road? As you contemplate those questions, allow God’s Word to touch your heart:

1 Peter 1:7 These troubles test your faith and prove that it is pure. And such faith is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. When your faith is proven to be pure, the result will be praise and glory and honour when Jesus Christ comes.

Whenever you face troubles that test your faith, know this: God is up to something good.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
