Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)

We know that we should have faith in Jesus. We know that we’re meant to trust Him in good times and in bad. But when times are bad, what we know, sometimes, doesn’t seem to help. The question is – exactly how do we lay hold of that sort of faith?

There as so many passages in the Bible, over and over, that tell us to trust God. But when that murky darkness surrounds you, when your vision’s obscured, when your emotions are running wild, when your circumstances are screaming – You’re not going to make it through this time! – exactly how are you meant to trust in God? That’s the question!

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)

It turns out that trying to think your way, reason your way through your dilemma, often times is simply not enough. Sure do your best, but when leaning on your own understanding just doesn’t cut it, then what’s required is a heart decision. A two-part heart decision.

The first part goes like this: come what may, whatever the world throws at me, even if it should cost me my life, I am going to stand firm and trust my God. And the second part? Well, in the meantime, while this wretched storm rages, I am going to honour Him in everything I think, say and do, in all my ways.

Is it easy? No, but somehow, when you’ve taken that stand, when you’ve made that heart decision, a calm descends on your soul. You don’t quite know how He’s going to do it, but you know that at some point He’s going to straighten things out.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Acknowledge Him in all your ways.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
