Whom Will God Make Strong?
2 Chronicles 16:9 The eyes of the LORD go around looking in all the earth for people who are faithful to him so that he can make them strong. Asa, you did a foolish thing. So from now on you will have wars.” (ESV)
One of the things I absolutely love about God is His desire to help us; to give us strength when ours is failing; to get us through situations that we can’t seem to get through on our own. I love that!
And more good news, God’s proactive in His desire to help, to strengthen us, to give us victory in the midst of our circumstances.
Think about it. When you care about someone, when you’re interested in what they’re saying, you lean into the conversation, right? You sit forward in your seat. And when you’re not, you lean back.
Well, God is a leaning in kind of God. He’s proactive. He’s looking for people who He can strengthen. But the truth is that He’s rather selective in whom He chooses. Here it is:
2 Chronicles 16:9 The eyes of the LORD go around looking in all the earth for people who are faithful to him so that he can make them strong. Asa, you did a foolish thing. So from now on you will have wars.” (ESV)
By way of explanation, Asa was King of Judah and instead of relying on the Lord in battle, he went to the King of Syria; in other words, he was unfaithful to God.
Listen, God isn’t necessarily looking for a king, or the smartest theologian, or the most prominent performer or Mr or Mrs Super Christian. He’s more than happy with ordinary, run-of-the-mill, easy-to-overlook folk like you and me whose hearts are faithful to Him. He’s looking for people just like that … so He can make them strong.
Remember that next time you’re in a pickle. Stay faithful to God and He will strengthen you.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
