A Contented Saint

Psalm 68:34,35 Tell everyone how powerful he is! He rules over Israel. His power fills the skies. God, you are awesome in your Temple! The God of Israel is the one who gives strength and power to his people. Praise God!

The thing that stops so many people from stepping out to serve God, from following after His call on their lives, is the fact that to themselves, they seems so … well, ordinary. Could God ever work through such an ordinary person as me?

I was having coffee a while back with Barry Chant, an ordinary man who in 1979 founded Tabor Bible College at which I studied. Since then, they’ve trained literally thousands of men and women who are now serving the Lord in all sorts of amazing ways, right across the globe.

As he was sharing some of their stories with me, I recall very clearly that he was overcome with emotion. He could barely get the words out. Here’s an ordinary man who’s dedicated his life to sharing his faith with others, and God has taken that to places that he could never have imagined.

Let me tell you, each time I step onto a plane to Kenya, or Namibia, or India, or the US, I thank God for this man through whom the Lord equipped me to do what He’s called me to do.

And that’s what happens. When we take our ordinary gifts and abilities and hand them over to God, He is mighty to do extraordinary things with them, things that we could never have imagined.

Psalm 68:34,35 Tell everyone how powerful he is! He rules over Israel. His power fills the skies. God, you are awesome in your Temple! The God of Israel is the one who gives strength and power to his people. Praise God!

The Lord is mighty to be praised. And He, let me tell you, is looking for more ordinary men and women just like Barry, through whom to work to glorify His name across the earth.

God will do extraordinary things through ordinary people who are willing to go.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
