A Double Helping

2 Kings 2:9 After they crossed the river, Elijah said to Elisha, “What do you want me to do for you before God takes me away from you?” Elisha said, “I ask you for a double share of your spirit on me.”

It would be really nice if life went along on a nice even keel, but we all know that’s not how it works. There are going to be times when we’re under the pump, and at those times what makes us think we shouldn’t ask God for His help?

Years ago, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that God would ever, ever do anything practical in my life. You know … help me when I needed help.

These days I lead a rather busy life travelling a lot, writing and producing radio and television programs. And as much as I try to have balance in my life, some days it’s simply not possible.

Take the other night for instance: I only managed to get to bed just on midnight because I’d been speaking at an event for another ministry. And I needed to be up again the next morning before five to catch a plane.

So just as I put my head down on the pillow I prayed, “Lord, you know I only have a few hours’ sleep tonight. And you know how sharp I need to be tomorrow. Lord, tonight I need a double helping of rest. Tomorrow I need a double helping of your Spirit.”

And a few minutes before the alarm went off in the morning, I was awake, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Maybe you think I’m crazy. But that’s God. That’s what He does for me when I ask Him.

2 Kings 2:9 After they crossed the river, Elijah said to Elisha, “What do you want me to do for you before God takes me away from you?” Elisha said, “I ask you for a double share of your spirit on me.”

Look, we need to try to live a balanced life. But every now and then, you’re going to need a double helping. Don’t be afraid to ask.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Manys a time when I know I need a good sleep a but have not long before I must be up, I ve asked the LORD to make these short hours feel like I have had 8 hours sleep and the LORD has never let me down yet. Thank you LORD so much for always being there when I need anything in my life, I know all I have to do is ask you LORD, Amen.
