A Father’s Love

Romans 5:6-8 Christ died for us when we were unable to help ourselves. We were living against God, but at just the right time Christ died for us. Very few people will die to save the life of someone else, even if it is for a good person. Someone might be willing to die for an especially good person. But Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and by this God showed how much he loves us.

Love is an easy word to say, but for many – given the bumps, bruises, scars, and in some cases, gaping wounds deep within – it can be difficult, if not impossible, to receive love.

I don’t know what sort of parents you had, and in particular, what sort of a father you had, but I was chatting with someone recently who had been rejected and abused as a child. Not surprisingly, she was struggling so incredibly to believe in God the Father. She had no frame of reference through which to comprehend the Father Heart of God.

When her own father had abused her as a child, how could she ever possibly come to grips with God … the Father?

Sadly, she’s not alone. So might I ask, given your upbringing, given all the things you’ve been through, how do you come to grips with the Father’s love for you?

A couple of thousand years ago, the Apostle Paul put it this way:

Romans 5:6-8 Christ died for us when we were unable to help ourselves. We were living against God, but at just the right time Christ died for us. Very few people will die to save the life of someone else, even if it is for a good person. Someone might be willing to die for an especially good person. But Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and by this God showed how much he loves us.

We live in a world of spin and fake news. Talk is cheap and, in many instances, completely meaningless. Fortunately though, actions speak louder – and in this case, much louder – than mere words.

On that cross God whispered, “I love you.” And right there, you have the Father Heart of God!

And that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
