A Fresh Start

2 Corinthians 5:17 When anyone is in Christ, it is a whole new world. The old things are gone; suddenly, everything is new!

I’ve been to so many churches and listened to so many sermons that to be perfectly honest, felt like dry, boring, theology lectures. Sorry, but that’s the truth.

Now please don’t get me wrong; given what I do, I’m very much into theology, but not merely as a theory lesson. Not just as an intellectual pursuit. It has to make a difference to my life, otherwise, truly, what’s the point?

The biggest difference that Jesus ever made to my life, was to give me a fresh start. Not in theory. In reality. Still today, and it’s well over twenty years since I gave my life to Him, I look at the old me, the old Berni as though he’s a completely different person. A person who doesn’t exist anymore. It’s as though the old me is gone, and everything is new. Of course, I’m still me, but a totally new me. I still have the same abilities, the same drive, it’s just that I use them for a different purpose.

When anyone is in Christ, it is a whole new world. The old things are gone; suddenly, everything is new! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Now, you and I could sit down and study the theology, the theory, of what God’s saying to us through that verse for several hours at least. In fact, quite easily, for much longer than that.

But the radical, life-changing truth of what God’s saying to us here, is that it doesn’t matter what’s gone before. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve botched things in your past; the broken relationships, the lost opportunities, the regrets, the hurts, the things other people have done to you. None of those things matter.

Because the moment, the very instant, you accept Jesus as both the one who saves you from all of that, and the one you live the rest of your life for … all of that becomes completely irrelevant.

You have a new life. You have a new future. The past no longer has a hold over you. This is not a theory lesson. When you and I choose to believe the truth of what God’s saying here, the regrets of the past simply evaporate.

Listen: Jesus came to set you free and when He sets you free, you are free indeed.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
