All I Want Is…

Philippians 3:8-10 Not only these things, but now I think that all things are worth nothing compared with the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Christ, I lost all these things, and now I know that they are all worthless trash. All I want now is Christ. I want to belong to him. In Christ I am right with God, but my being right does not come from following the law. It comes from God through faith. God uses my faith in Christ to make me right with him. All I want is to know Christ and the power that raised him from death. I want to share in his sufferings and be like him even in his death.

So, what matters most to you? What do you place the highest value on in your day-to-day life? Not in theory. I’m talking about reality –  the way you actually live your life.

That’s not an easy question because, as a Christian, the correct answer should be … my relationship with Jesus. But how often do things like your pride, your desire to be well thought of, the things you want to buy and experience, promote themselves in your hearts above what should be the most important thing? Here’s the Apostle Paul on that very thing:

Philippians 3:8-10 Not only these things, but now I think that all things are worth nothing compared with the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Christ, I lost all these things, and now I know that they are all worthless trash. All I want now is Christ. I want to belong to him. In Christ I am right with God, but my being right does not come from following the law. It comes from God through faith. God uses my faith in Christ to make me right with him. All I want is to know Christ and the power that raised him from death. I want to share in his sufferings and be like him even in his death.

All that stuff in our lives, compared to Christ, is “worthless trash” (actually “dung” in the original text). Paul’s encounter with Christ changed everything for him.

All I want now is Christ … to know Him and the power that raised him from death … to share in his sufferings … to be like him.

Friend, it’s time to decide once and for all what you really want in this life.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
