Betrayed by Kindness

Luke 9:22 Then Jesus said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things. He will be rejected by the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and teachers of the law. And he will be killed. But after three days he will be raised from death.”

Have you ever been hurt by someone you’d helped? You showed kindness, opened your heart, gave your best – and they repaid you with rejection or betrayal. It’s one of life’s deepest wounds because it breaks something you never thought would break – trust.

Back in the 1970s, Mother Teresa poured her life into serving the poor and dying on the streets of Calcutta. She built hospitals, schools, and orphanages – yet even she faced painful betrayal. Some of her closest co-workers turned against her, spreading lies and questioning her motives. She once wrote in her journal, “If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish motives. Be kind anyway.”

Perhaps you relate. You helped someone and it came back to bite you. Your love was answered with betrayal.

Jesus knows that pain. One of His friends, Judas, sold Him for thirty pieces of silver. Another, Peter, denied even knowing Him. He’d healed the sick, fed the hungry, forgiven the broken – yet still, they turned on Him.

Luke 9:22 Then Jesus said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things. He will be rejected by the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and teachers of the law. And he will be killed. But after three days he will be raised from death.”

Yet even on the cross, Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them.”

That’s the power of divine love – it keeps giving, even when it hurts.

So if someone’s hurt you deeply, don’t let their betrayal harden your heart. Let it draw you closer to the One who was betrayed for you.

Because His love can heal even the wounds that kindness leaves behind.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
