Courage Begins When Fear Meets Faith
Joshua 1:9 Remember, I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
Fear has a quiet way of running our lives. It doesn’t always shout – sometimes it just whispers, “Stay safe, don’t stand out, don’t risk it.” And before we know it, courage fades and comfort becomes our master.
In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary stood at the foot of Mount Everest, facing conditions that had killed every climber before him. Fear was real – but his determination was stronger. When he finally reached the summit, he said later, “It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”
That’s exactly where a man named Joshua found himself. His mentor Moses – the greatest leader Israel had ever known – was gone. The task ahead was terrifying: lead millions of people into a foreign land filled with enemies. Take that land, battle after battle.
Interestingly, God’s first words to him weren’t about tactics or weapons, but about courage.
Joshua 1:9 Remember, I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
That’s what God said to Joshua – and with all my heart, I believe that that’s what He’s saying to you. Real courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s the quiet decision to trust God more than your circumstances; more than your feelings; more than your fear.
So whatever mountain stands before you today – take the step. You don’t need perfect confidence, just the courage to believe that the One who calls you will go with you, all the way to the summit.
Remember, I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
