Don’t Worry
Philippians 4:6,7 Don't worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have. And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God's peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds.
So, Christianity – an opiate for the masses as Karl Marx said. Or a true, vibrant, spiritual reality given as a gift from the living God? Which is it?
I was chatting with a friend of mine the other day and old Bill, well, he’s a bit sceptical about this whole Christianity thing. “Surely Berni, you don’t believe in all that stuff in the Bible, do you?”
Well, some would call me crazy, but yes, actually I do!
And it’s not a blind faith thing, not at all. Because the more I just quietly walk with Jesus every day, the more I discover this profound truth in my own experience: that it actually works. I mean; if it doesn’t, if it didn’t, it would be a complete waste of time.
So, let me give you just one example. You know when you’re worrying about something and that worry just won’t go away? You turn it over and over and over in your mind. You picture all the things that could possibly go wrong and somehow, we end up imagining that all of those scenarios are going to come together into a perfect storm of destruction. Night times are always the worst.
Well, have a listen to this:
Don’t worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have. And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds. (Philippians 4:6,7)
And so, when I find myself worrying, instead, I’ll pray. And you know something? I have this peace that doesn’t make sense, this peace that you can’t explain. Christianity isn’t some blind leap of faith. It works! It just does!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
