Flowering Plants

John 4:13,14 Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.

Why is it that some people seem to power on and grow and flourish so amazingly when they give their lives to Jesus? Whilst others … well, you know – they’re alive, but only just. Their lives don’t seem to be bearing any real fruit.

A few months ago, I planted some tiny seedlings in my front garden. Anyhow, there’s a drought on where I live so we’re only allowed to use those drip watering systems twice a week. I made sure I planted each one near a water outlet – at least, I thought I did.

The good news is that they’ve each grown about twenty times their original size, with beautiful white flowers – all of them, that is, except one. It’s still alive mind you, but it hasn’t grown at all and it doesn’t have any flowers. It turns out that this particular one didn’t get any water.

Water is essential to life. Jesus had a bit to say about that:

John 4:13,14 Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.

Of course, He’s talking about His very Presence in us by the Holy Spirit. And what He’s saying here is that this spring is one of abundance, gushing up to eternal life. So abundant in fact, that those who come to Him and drink will never, ever be thirsty again.

And yet, there are so many people who believe in Jesus who are still thirsty. You can pick them easily … they look a lot like that one seedling of mine that didn’t get any water.

There’s a simple answer of course: Everyone who drinks of the Water that Jesus gives will never be thirsty again.

Drink!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
