Hanging Back

1 Samuel 15:22 But Samuel answered, “Which pleases the Lord more: burnt offerings and sacrifices or obeying his commands? It is better to obey the Lord than to offer sacrifices to him. It is better to listen to him than to offer the fat from rams.

Can I ask you – what is it that’s stopping you from laying down everything for Jesus, being prepared to give up whatever He may call you to give up? We all have something. What’s your something?

For much of my life I had a sneaking suspicion that Jesus was who He said He was. And something inside me kind of knew that one day I’d end up living my life for Him.

But I had things to do, places to go, people to see … money to make. Never mind that none of those things ever quite filled that hole; that there was always this part of me inside that felt empty.

The reason I hung back was that I knew that I’d have to give something up – the things that were wrong.

1 Samuel 15:22 But Samuel answered, “Which pleases the Lord more: burnt offerings and sacrifices or obeying his commands? It is better to obey the Lord than to offer sacrifices to him. It is better to listen to him than to offer the fat from rams.

Obedience – that was my problem. I was afraid of what I’d have to give up. I knew that Jesus was there for me, but I was afraid of taking that step towards Him. Now I can look back and see His hand in my life, even during those years, and through those times He made me who I am, so I have no regrets.

But if I could change just one thing in my life, it would be this: When I heard His small still voice calling me, I’d answer much sooner because the very few things He called me to give up were nothing compared to what I’ve gained.

Don’t be afraid to answer the call. It is so, so worth it!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

1 Corinthians 7:7
But I wish everyone were single, just as I am. Yet each person has a special gift from God, of one kind or another.

I believe that some person’s special gifts from God cannot be obtained without laying down ones life before Jesus, because the world is still not able to accept or acknowledge Gods truth within others because of all the misconceptions and beliefs of this world.
