How to Love God Back

1 John 5:3,4 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world ... (ESV)

I’ve heard people say that they love God. Great. But how do you love Him? Come on, how do you love someone you can’t see? Because if you don’t know the answer to that question, how can you possibly love God?

When someone loves us beyond anything that words can ever say, our natural response is to want to love them back. That’s just how we’re built.

But when it comes to God and the amazing love that He’s shown towards the likes of thee and me, loving Him back … well, exactly how do you do that? You can’t see Him; you can’t hug Him. How do you love God back?

When I was a kid, my parents did so much for me; they sacrificed for me, they served me, they loved me, even when I didn’t deserve it. That’s what parents are supposed to do. That’s what love is.

So think about it, how does a child express love back to its parents. The odd smile, sure, a hug now and then, great. Mum and dad love that. But the best way for a child to love his or her parents back is to honour them, to obey them, isn’t it?

So why would we think it’d be any different with God?

1 John 5:3,4 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world … (ESV)

Saying you love God, singing songs about how much you love Him … hey, that’s all well and good, absolutely it is. But this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments.

Rocket science it ain’t. If you want to love God back, make sure that your life declares your love for Him.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
