If We Had Just 60 Seconds

Romans 10:9 … if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (NRSV)

Heaven, hell, eternity … they all seem pretty irrelevant now. But then when eternity comes upon us, as it inevitably will, the only thing that’ll seem irrelevant are all the things we think are important today.

Sixty seconds – that’s all we have. What to say? What to share? How to use these next sixty seconds to change your eternity?

You and I are doing a tandem skydive. We’ve jumped out of the plane, I’ve just pulled the ripcord, but our parachute’s tangled. The auxiliary’s failed. We’re holding onto each other for dear life, plummeting to the ground toward a certain, imminent death. I have just sixty seconds to tell you the most important thing I can possibly ever tell you. Here it is:

Friend, there is a God. There is a heaven. There is a hell. Believe you me – there is!

And He loves you so much … so much … that He sent His Son Jesus to die for you, to pay for your sins. And the only way – the only way – that you can have eternal life is to put all your trust in Jesus, here and now.

Well, hopefully you and I have a tad more than sixty seconds left. But make no mistake, the end is coming. You and I are hurtling towards a certain and imminent departure from this world.

And when that happens, what you believe will determine where you spend the rest of eternity. There is a heaven. There is a hell.
