Is God Deaf?

Psalm 116:1-2 I love the LORD for hearing me, for listening to my prayers. Yes, he paid attention to me, so I will always call to him whenever I need help.

Have you ever felt as though God simply isn’t listening to you? That, no matter how much you pray and how much you believe, He’s just somehow gone deaf on you?

When you’re sitting there, stewing in your own juices of pain, of discomfort, of self-doubt, of whatever it is that’s causing you grief at the moment. And you cry out to God, one of the most common experiences that you’re going to have is, that in response, you get nothing but a deafening silence. Sensational!

As I look back over the decades that I’ve been walking with God instead of away from Him, I can recall many occasions like that. Times when, to be honest, it felt as though God was deaf. Times when I cried out and His only reply was a thundering silence.

But as each of God’s apparent deaf spots have played themselves out in my life, without exception, He’s come up with a different tack, a different idea, a different plan – things that I wouldn’t have thought of in my wildest dreams.

And so these days, when God appears to be having a “deaf day”, I choose to press deeper into Him, because in my heart of hearts, through those difficult times, I’ve learned that He has a much, much better plan.

Psalm 116:1-2 I love the LORD for hearing me, for listening to my prayers. Yes, he paid attention to me, so I will always call to him whenever I need help.

Those are the words of a man, who through the most difficult times of his life has learned the same thing. The truth is that God is paying attention, that He did hear you. The truth is that He does have a plan. The truth is that you can always call on him, whenever you need help.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
