Just Like You and Me
Matthew 9:10,11 Jesus ate dinner at Matthew’s house. Many tax collectors and others with bad reputations came and ate with him and his followers. The Pharisees saw that Jesus was eating with these people. They asked his followers, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and other sinners?”
With all that God has to do today, can you imagine that there could it be a possibility, even the remotest possibility, that He’s interested in the stuff that’s going on in your life? Well?
Here’s a mind-blowing statistic: The combined annual revenue of the top fifty companies in the world is greater than the combined gross domestic products of the poorest fifty countries where, incidentally, over half of the world’s population lives. Wow!
It never ceases to amaze me how big companies can grow – global brands that we all know … Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Coca Cola, McDonalds, Nike – but no matter how big they are, how many billions they turn over, how much profit they deliver to their shareholders … each one of them is made up of individuals like you and me … millions of ordinary, everyday people who show up to work every day, just like you and me.
And whenever we hear of some natural or manmade disaster in one of those poorer countries where countless people become homeless, countless suffer and die, they’re not statistics – they’re people, families, parents, children … just like you and me.
This world, when you boil it right down, is made up of several billion little people with little stories … some happy, some sad, some downright tragic.
Maybe that’s why Jesus hung out with the little people; the fishermen, the tax collectors, the lepers, the beggars, the prostitutes.

Why? Because He came to save the little people – people just like you and me.
