Living with Jetlag

1 Corinthians 6:19,20 You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don’t own yourselves. God paid a very high price to make you his. So honour God with your body.

Do you know what I think? I think that we Christians all too often over-spiritualise our faith. We forget that as well as the whole spiritual thing, there’s the physical dimension in which we live.

I recently travelled from Australia to India as I frequently do. And being daylight saving time in Australia, there was a five-and-a-half-hour time difference, which I have to tell you, is more than enough to really knock you around. Add to that the change in diet from my usual western diet to spicy Indian cuisine, not to mention the incredibly hectic speaking schedule I had while I was there, and honestly, I was exhausted the whole time I was in India.

Now I’m this fit, energetic, go-go-go kind of guy, but that confluence of jetlag, the food and my schedule always seem to knock me around when I travel on those short, intensive trips.

I wonder how many people though, are living their whole lives like that. Because they’re not getting enough sleep, or they’re under pressure and stress, or they’re not eating properly, or … all of those things together and then some.

Listen to me. Your body matters to God. I mean think of this amazing thing, your body, that He’s given you. You’re a living, breathing, walking miracle. And yet, we race around like lunatics, forgetting to look after it.

1 Corinthians 6:19,20 You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don’t own yourselves. God paid a very high price to make you his. So honour God with your body.

I’ll say it again. Your body is a miracle that matters to God. Look after yourself and life gets a whole lot better.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
