My Redeemer Lives

Job 19:25,26 For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God. (NRSV)

When it feels as though everything around you is collapsing, when your troubles and the pain threaten to overwhelm you, when not one – not even God – seems to be on your side … then what? How will you respond? What will you believe?

I’m not sure if you’ve ever read the story of Job in the Old Testament, but it’s one that I come back to time and time again because it’s a sobering story about the realities of life.

Job is one of the good guys, blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil (Job 1:1). And yet God, for reasons that never become entirely clear to Job or to us, allows the devil to attack him – so much so that he loses pretty much everything that matters to him, except life itself.

His friends are no help either. They gather around and tell him, “Well Job, you must have done something really bad for God to do this to you.” Hey, with friends like that, who needs enemies?

Job cries out to God over and over again. “God, why are you doing this to me? It’s not fair. I haven’t done anything wrong. How long are you going to let this go on?” Perhaps you relate. But right in the middle of one of his laments, Job defiantly comes to this conclusion….

Job 19:25,26 For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God. (NRSV)

Deep down amidst all His pains and troubles, in the midst of it all, Job knew that God his Redeemer lives. His trust in God was not shaken. He knew that one day He would see God. That was enough. It’s always enough.

And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

When it come to the story of JOB people really doesn’t get the true message of the Story of JOB. You see it easy to for a person to say that they have faith in God but that not the billion dollar question of the story of JOB. What most people fail to realize it wasn’t only about the Faith JOB had in God it was also about the Faith God had in JOB to be a Righteous man to which God had enough Faith in JOB that he was will to make a Wager with the Devil that no one was right as his son JOB. Like I said earlier anyone can say they have faith in God but can you actually say that God has faith in you? We have made faith a one way street but in reality it a two way street. If God had faith in you then you can say it is a given that you clearly have faith in God.
