Significance or Success?

Mark 10:43,44 Whoever wants to be your leader must be your servant. Whoever wants to be first must serve the rest of you like a slave.

It’s a crazy world in which we live when a young woman doing her makeup on YouTube can garner hundreds of millions of views of her videos. Really? What exactly is going on here?

It seems some days that we’re living in a world where everybody wants to stand out from the crowd. Ask just about any teenager and they’ll tell you that they want to be a famous something … tennis player or singer or actor … or whatever.

And it’s not just the young folk. Millions of people have their own blogs online. Billions are trying to get noticed on social media, build up their following, become “influencers” as they’re called these days.

It seems that we’re only significant if we’re noticed, recognised, for what we do … and everybody just seems to be clamouring for attention.

But paradoxically, the more streaming services, websites, social media accounts there are out there, the less the average person like you and me gets noticed. So with that backdrop, let me to ask you; what are you looking for? Success or significance? In other words, do you want to be noticed, or do you want to make a difference? Your answer matters because there’s a huge gulf between the two.

Jesus had this crazy idea:

Mark 10:43,44 Whoever wants to be your leader must be your servant. Whoever wants to be first must serve the rest of you like a slave.

There are ordinary people out there doing an extraordinary job of changing lives, yet most people will never know their name.

Then there are a bunch of Instagram influencers out there who’ve never achieved anything in their lives, yet have hundreds of thousands – and in some cases, millions – of followers.

Significance or success. Which one are you chasing?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
