Sweet Poison

Jeremiah 6:20 Of what use to me is frankincense that comes from Sheba, or sweet cane from a distant land?

These days there’s a health debate raging about sugar. Now, whilst most nutritionists will tell you not to have too much sugar, what they’re not telling us is that sugar is actually a poison.

It sounds extreme doesn’t it, calling sugar a poison? But the truth is that the only thing that’s extreme is how much of it we’re actually consuming.

Here’s a quick Bible quiz. How often is sugar mentioned in the Bible? Answer? Precisely zero times. Sweet cane is mentioned twice, although in the context of it being a rare delicacy.

Jeremiah 6:20
Of what use to me is frankincense that comes from Sheba, or sweet cane from a distant land?

In the 1880’s the average Britton was eating around 7 kgs or 15 pounds of sugar a year. Today we’re eating an average 70 kgs or150 pounds of the stuff and more … and it’s killing us.

A morbidly obese lawyer by the name of David Gillespie set about using his forensic and investigative skills to find out why he was so fat and why he couldn’t lose weight. He reviewed all the studies around the world and as a dispassionate lawyer, having weighed the evidence, concluded that it was in fact the high sugar consumption, more than anything else, that’s killing us.

Sugar! Can you see why it’s so controversial? We love the stuff.

I read his book “Sweet Poison” and decided for myself that he was right. So I pretty much removed sugar from my diet. The impact was dramatic. I lost 25 kgs and my doctor is still doing cartwheels over my blood test results.

That book again is called “Sweet Poison” by David Gillespie.

Is sugar a rarity in your life the way it’s meant to be, or has it become your sweet poison? You decide.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Recently I had to stop consuming sugary drinks and food with sugar in them.
That’s because the sugar was irritating my kidneys.
And what a relief that the irritation has stopped.
Oh, and my blood type is O Positive, which has had a lot to do with it.
