Telling God’s Story, God’s Way

Matthew 7:6 Don't give something that is holy to dogs. They will only turn and hurt you. And don't throw your pearls to pigs. They will only step on them.

Let’s imagine that you feel led to share your faith in Jesus, with someone who doesn’t yet believe. How would you go about it?

I was on holidays interstate recently, and on the Saturday morning they had a market in the city where we were staying. Lots of people milling around the stalls buying things that they probably really didn’t need.

And over to one side there was a young man, I guess he was thirty or so, literally standing on a soapbox, Bible in hand, shouting at people as they passed by. Yelling at them, that they were all going to hell, if they didn’t repent and turn to Jesus.

Would it surprise you then, if I told you that none of them, not a single one, stopped to even listen, let alone take his message to heart? I was so embarrassed for him and also, in a sense, for the Gospel of Christ.

Is this what we think? Do we imagine that people will encounter this loving, compassionate, amazing God, when we shout condemnation at them from a soapbox?

Matthew 7:6 Don’t give something that is holy to dogs. They will only turn and hurt you. And don’t throw your pearls to pigs. They will only step on them.

When Jesus came to draw me to Him, to save me from myself, He chose to reach out to me through people who cared. People who made the effort to understand me; people who felt my pain, people who wept with me and laughed with me; people who were patient, people who were prepared to share their Jesus – their Jesus – with me … when I was ready.

If only we could learn to tell God’s story … God’s way.

Jesus.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Berni I am a bit of a slow learner so could you please explain the “don’t throw your pearls before swine” scripture as i don’t understand how this fits in with what you are saying. To be honest I don’t understand this scripture at all. I do love listening to your talks keep up the good work.

This hits home. I have a friend who is so deep in sorrow over a previous relationship it is tearing him apart, he has nothing left to give and cannot receive , he truly believes he is but an empty shell. He is so cynical and empty it is sad. I try to pray for him but get distracted by my thoughts of his sorrow. Please pray for him, Geoff. Please pray for a tearing down of walls and a building up of the need to find the love of God although he doesn’t know that is what he needs.
