The Deep Mystery of Faith

Hebrews 11:1,3 Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see … Faith helps us understand that God created the whole world by his command. This means that the things we see were made by something that cannot be seen.

Apparently, so the scientific theory goes, the universe was created billions of years ago as a result of “the big bang”. But who put it there in the first place, and what made it go bang?

Those are questions that science simply cannot explain. You can’t begin to theorise, because … well, you simply can’t. The idea that something happened out of nothing is completely inexplicable. At least, from a scientific perspective, it will remain forever a deep mystery.

Enter God. In the beginning, God created … everything out of nothing. So you have to ask yourself then, why do you and I sometimes struggle to believe that God could do this or that; that He could overcome the impossible; that He could move mountains; that He could provide for our needs when the well seems completely dry? Why is that exactly?

Over the past few days we’ve been unpacking the powerful truth that faith – even the smallest amount of faith, even a mustard seed of faith – is what makes things real. Here it is … straight out of God’s Word:

Hebrews 11:1,3 Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see … Faith helps us understand that God created the whole world by his command. This means that the things we see were made by something that cannot be seen.

Just because you can’t see it or explain it or touch it and feel it, doesn’t mean that it’s not real. Don’t be afraid to step out into God’s plans in faith, because your faith – small, imperfect and stumbling though it may be – is what makes His plans real. What an incredible partnership we’ve been invited into!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
