The Good News
1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.
Can I ask you to cast your mind back over all the mistakes – big and small – that you’ve made in your life. Financial, health, relationships, career, pride … the whole lot. Doubtless, like me, you could write a book about them.
Those mistakes can weigh heavily on our hearts. Have you let go? Have you forgiven yourself? Or are the consequences still robbing you of your peace and joy, hanging over your future like a dark cloud?
What mistake from your past continues to haunt you? As you feel the weight of that, perhaps revisit the pain, let me to share this:
1 John 1:9 … if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.
What does it mean to confess your sins to God? It means to fess up, to name them, to take responsibility for them, to be honest with yourself and with God about them, rather than continuing to sweep them under the rug hoping they’ll go away.
And when you do that, God will forgive you. You can absolutely trust Him to do that, because Jesus died to pay for your sins. And He will make you clean from all the wrong things you’ve done.
So that, with your slate wiped completely clean, you can get on with living the life He always meant you to live. Which is why Jesus rose again from the grave – to give you victory over sin and death; to let you live a new life, eternally, in His love.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
