There’s No Need to Shout

Ephesians 2:13 Yes, at one time you were far away from God, but now in Christ Jesus, you are brought near to him. You are brought near to God through the blood sacrifice of Christ.

The other night, I was speaking at a business event, and afterwards a man approached me to tell me that he was going through a really tough time

He said, “Berni I hear what you’re saying about God and being close and all that stuff. But last night, I was lying on my bed crying out to God. Crying out. But still no answer. It’s been like that for over a year. I just don’t know what to do.”

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say that to me. When you’re going through difficult times, it often feels as though God’s taken a huge step back, leaving you to sort it out on your own. That closeness, that intimacy that you once had with Him, seems to have evaporated.

And so we get to imagining that God lives somewhere on the other side of the universe. We get to thinking that we have to shout across 15 billion light years to get His attention. But that simply isn’t true.

Oh, it may have been true at one time. Because before you put your trust in Jesus, before you accept Him as the one who saves you, the one whom you live your life for, it’s very much the case that you are a long way off from God. But when you put your trust in Him, everything changes. That’s the truth. In fact, here it is, the truth:

Yes, at one time you were far away from God, but now in Christ Jesus, you are brought near to him. You are brought near to God through the blood sacrifice of Christ. (Ephesians 2:13)

So let me ask you, do you believe in Jesus? Do you believe that He died for you to pay for your sins? Have you put your trust in Him?

If the answer is no, then now’s a really good time to do that. Don’t leave it another day, because tomorrow … tomorrow could be too late.

But if the answer is yes, if you have trusted your life into His hands, then the truth is, quite simply, this: that this God of yours is closer to you than even the deepest secret of your heart. He’s already here. Trust in the truth, trust in Jesus. He’s already here.

There’s no need to shout.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
