Time to Come Out of Your Shell

Jeremiah 29:12-14 Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. (NRSV)

One of the intensely inconvenient things about the way God has set things up is that here you and I are, physically on this earth and there He is … somewhere … out there … where exactly is He again?

A great many people who believe in Jesus spend a lot of their time wondering – Well, where in the blazes is God?! Where is He when I’m struggling? Where is He when life isn’t fair? Where is He … when I’m completely at the end of my tether?

Good question – where is He?

When things aren’t going the way we’d hoped (and let’s face it, we’ve all been there) we tend to withdraw into a shell of self-pity. It’s a natural reaction, I guess it’s just not such a helpful reaction. So, where is He?

Well, to the Israelites towards the end of seventy years in exile as slaves He said this:

Jeremiah 29:12-14 Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. (NRSV)

Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to come out of your shell. Maybe, just maybe God is already here, closer than you ever imagined – ready to be found, ready to do things that will amaze you if only you’ll trust in His goodness.

When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart

That’s the promise. And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
