Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)

Have you noticed how as you hit the odd pothole, the sharp twist, the unexpected turn along your journey, your steering starts to get a bit wobbly? Your faith starts feeling a bit shaky?

If you have indeed noticed that … a word of encouragement. You’re not alone. It happens to all of us. It certainly happens to me. And there’s a reason for that. Because God wants us to grow in maturity, He increasingly allows us to be confronted by circumstances that stretch our faith, that cause us to exercise our faith to grow it stronger.

Those potholes, those sharp twists, those unexpected turns are all carefully placed along our road to grow our dependency on God. So friend, when you’ve stepped out to follow Jesus and the wind beneath your wings disappears, when the ground is rushing up at you … that’s exactly where God means for you to be.

And in that place, in that situation here’s what He wants you (and me) to do:

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)

When the wind’s gone from beneath your wings, flapping harder doesn’t help. When things are beyond comprehension, leaning on your own understanding doesn’t work. The alternative?

In all your ways acknowledge Him, honour Him in every thought, word and deed, keep doing good despite the fear you feel and (here’s the promise, are you ready?) God will straighten things out.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
