Up and Down and Round and Round

Psalm 34:11-14 Children, come and listen to me; I will teach you to respect the Lord. Do you want to enjoy life? Do you want to have many happy days? Then avoid saying anything hurtful, and never let a lie come out of your mouth. Stop doing anything evil and do good. Look for peace and do all you can to help people live peacefully.

Like it or not, that nasty little word that we hate to think about – sin – however small it may appear to us, is going to rob you of the abundant life that Jesus came to bring you, time and time again.

Life sometimes feels as though we’re on a merry-go-round.  Up and down, round and round, but we keep on ending up in the same place. My question for you today, is what part of your life feels like that?

The problem is that, all too often, we’re chasing after the wrong things – the desires of life or, as we might think of it today, the good life. The problem with that is that all those things that promise to give you the good life turn out to be imposters. Success is hollow. There never seems to be that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Pleasure, ultimately, doesn’t satisfy. So, what’s the answer?

Maybe it’s a case of going back to basics. You know that dark side that each one of us has, the hidden selfishness, the desire to win, the desire to get our way, the thing that causes us to spread rumours and gossip, all that stuff. You know …

Maybe it’s time to say enough. Really, truly … I’m never going to have God’s peace if I live in that mess.

Yeah. Enough is enough.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
