What He Needs

Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, be willing to serve your husbands the same as the Lord. A husband is the head of his wife, just as Christ is the head of the church. Christ is the Saviour of the church, which is his body.

The Bible has some incredibly politically incorrect things to say about the roles of men and women. So, the easiest thing to do, is simply to reject God’s Word. And that, in fact, is what many people do!

You don’t have to have a PhD to figure out that men and women are very, very different. Wives need to be cherished and valued. We talked about that yesterday. But women, let me ask you, what does your husband need the most from you?

Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, be willing to serve your husbands the same as the Lord. A husband is the head of his wife, just as Christ is the head of the church. Christ is the Saviour of the church, which is his body.

Ooh! Ouch! That doesn’t sit all too comfortably these days. And yet, deep down, many a wife does, in point of fact, want her husband to step up to the plate and lead – to deal with that difficult teenager; to handle the dispute with the next-door neighbour, to protect her from the judgemental relative.

His robustness, his strength is, or at least should be, an asset to a marriage. He’s been made to lead. And what he needs most from his wife, is respect! Simple respect. That’s exactly the point that Dr John Gray makes in his popular book, “Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus”

It’s why henpecking your husband; wives, will never, ever, ever work! What he needs more than anything, in order to be the husband that God made him to be, is the trust and the respect of his wife.

That’s not such an unreasonable understanding of God’s Word, here, early in the Twenty-First Century, where the role of a woman is very different to what it was, back when that Scripture was written.

Remember, respect. Simple respect.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Today’s message was meant for me really. I have to work on submitting to my husband and not look at him according to the things he does. We are both Christians and confessed Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour but he has not stopped smoking and since he does, he keeps in the company of some people that I detest. This keeps me a distance from him and makes me look at him a certain unpleasant way. I am going to work at it according to today’s word. Thank you for sharing
