What Makes You Happy?

John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my body. I will give my body so that the people in the world can have life.

Satisfaction is an interesting concept. It comes to us in all sorts of different ways – through a rewarding job, through great relationships, through a good holiday, perhaps. But at the end of the day, none of those things in and of themselves tend to give us what we really want.

There was an American sitcom on television recently. It’s a show that’s supposed to be funny, and it is. And yet during this one episode a married woman was in bed with another man.

So he asked her why she was doing this. Did she love her husband? Yes. When they tied the knot, was she expecting that he’d give her everything she wanted? Yes. Well – had he? Yes.

So why was she doing this? Not an unreasonable question.

This is what she said: Well, it turns out that the things I wanted didn’t make me happy. Hmmm … I wonder how many people live their lives that way. I mean, if someone asked you how happy you are with your life,  how satisfied you really are, what would your answer be? – because a lot of people are chasing after things that will never satisfy them. Jesus once said:

John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my body. I will give my body so that the people in the world can have life.

There’s something about a fresh, crusty piece of bread that’s deeply satisfying. Junk food’s okay, but when you’re hungry … fresh bread… the smell, the taste … it hits the spot.

That’s why Jesus said – I am the bread of life. Because whether we realise it or not, Jesus is the one place where we’ll find what we’re looking for – because that … that’s how we’ve been made.

So on a scale of one to ten, how satisfied are you?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Dear Berni
We Know that God wants us to keep to the narrow way , but sometimes the broad way of the world is so tempting for us which leads us to our own destruction and condemnation of God . Help us God to repent of our sin and return to the narrow way I pray , which leads us to life eternal with You. And it says, only a few find it ! Amen.
Thanks Henry.
