When Someone Else’s Mess Becomes Your Mission
Galatians 6:2 Help each other with your troubles. When you do this, you are obeying the law of Christ.
What’s your instinctive reaction when you’re confronted by the raw, messy realities of someone else’s life? The friend whose marriage is falling apart. The parent slipping into addiction. The workmate whose bitterness poisons every room they walk into. When their pain starts touching yours – do you lean in … or back away?
Years ago, a young woman named Clara Barton found herself nursing wounded soldiers during the American Civil War. At first, she recoiled from the blood and agony – she wanted to turn and run. But something deep inside told her to stay.
Day after day, she dressed wounds, held dying men’s hands, and organised relief for thousands. Her persistence birthed what would become the American Red Cross – compassion that changed a nation.
Galatians 6:2 Help each other with your troubles. When you do this, you are obeying the law of Christ.
The Apostle Paul wrote that to believers who were struggling to live out genuine community. His call was simple but costly: carry one another’s burdens. Don’t avoid the weight that others are carrying – share it. Because that’s what Jesus did for us.
So today maybe someone close to you is hurting, and every fibre of your being wants to make you turn and run; every instinct is telling you, “This is just too much.” But love doesn’t run away. Love stays. Love carries.
Who in your world right now needs you to stay close – even though it’s messy? Whose mess is God calling you into as your mission to help carry their burden? Because, let me tell you, your love could change their whole world.
Help each other with your troubles. When you do this, you are obeying the law of Christ
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
