A Group of Men

2 Corinthians 5:7-8 We live by what we believe will happen, not by what we can see. So I say that we have confidence. And we really want to be away from this body and be at home with the Lord.

A while ago, I had the opportunity to spend an evening with a bunch of Christian businessmen. And over a simple meal, we all shared our lives and our stories.

As I sat and listened … what struck me about these men was that their faith was real. It was vibrant. There was the real estate agent. “I’m in the ministry business”, he said, as he wrapped up a story about helping one of his staff through a deep hurt and struggle.

And another one, he shared how God had called him to full-time ministry, through his business. And man! Had God put this guy through the wringer!

Sometimes, I think we put our faith in a nice safe box and we leave it on the shelf. Then we head off to work.

But for these guys, they took their faith to work with them. That’s why they were so vibrant in what they believed. For them, it was real. They lived their lives not by what they could see, but by what they believed.

And I decided, then and there, that’s how I wanted to live my life. Not with some nice, safe Christian. But out there on the edge, where these guys lived.

We live by what we believe will happen, not by what we can see. So I say that we have confidence. And we really want to be away from this body and be at home with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:7-8)

God wants your faith to be real. He wants you to live it out, each and every day, whatever it is that you do.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
