Grown-Up Thinking

Philippians 3:15,16 I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven

The longer you exert yourself to do anything worthwhile in life, the more tempting it becomes to slow down, to take it a bit easier, to allow your mind wander … to grind to a halt. Have you noticed?

Yesterday we chatted about a powerful approach through the Apostle Paul to living out the rest of our time on this earth …

Philippians 3:14 I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.

But come on … running hard is hard work when you’ve taken up your cross to follow Jesus. So, in case the temptation to slow down is being dangled under your nose, Paul goes on to write:

Philippians 3:15,16 All of us who have grown to be spiritually mature should think this way too. And if there is any of this that you don’t agree with, God will make it clear to you. But we should continue following the truth we already have.

Who should think this way? Who should run hard? All of us who are spiritually mature! Perhaps God is making something clear to you right now. Perhaps this is just the wakeup call – the powerful Spirit-filled encouragement that you need heading into this next year.

Because if you’re not pressing forward, running hard toward the prize that, in Christ, is already yours, then you’re slipping backward into territory where the devil, intent on robbing you, will attack you again and again. So … continue following the truth you already have. Run hard to the finish line.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
