There’s a Race to Run

Philippians 3:14 I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.

So as you get ready to step into the new year, might I ask you, where’s your finish line? When will your race be over?

Perhaps you think it a little odd for us to be chatting about a finish line when, in fact, we’re just about to step up to next year’s starting line. But let’s get real. We each have a finish line and most of us haven’t a clue as to when and where it will come.

And so we carry on as though there isn’t a finish line for our race here on earth. But there very definitely is, because either our body will give up the ghost so as to speak or Jesus will return … whichever comes first.

So what are you going to do between now and your finish line? How are you going to run your race? Will you get caught up in the cares and the calls of this world, or will you focus on the prize that lies ahead? And, given that our finish line can come at us at any time, let’s focus then simply on this next year. How are you going to run your race next year? Writes the Apostle Paul …

Philippians 3:14 I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.

God has an amazing life ahead of you, from now into all eternity. Stay focussed, run hard towards the finish line, sacrifice, serve, honour, glorify your God. Because the prize – life eternal in Christ Jesus – is absolutely worth it.

Keep running hard.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
