I am the Light of the World

John 8:12 Later, Jesus talked to the people again. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never live in darkness. They will have the light that gives life.”

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been chatting a bit about the darkness that seems to be enveloping the world. But it’s not just the world. Darkness is enveloping many a life.

With all that we’ve been through over the last couple of years – the whole COVID pandemic thing, the many deaths, the civil unrest in some places, the economic and social fallout, man it’s been a tough time. And that’s not to mention all the normal “stuff” we have going on in our lives – and there’s always some “stuff”, right?

Under those circumstances, over such a long time, it’s easy to sink into a melancholy. It can feel like a long, cold winter that’s never going to end. And there are many whose faith is wavering, who are wondering, where is God in all of this?

John 8:12 Later, Jesus talked to the people again. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never live in darkness. They will have the light that gives life.”

It seems to me that the difficult times in which we live provide us with such a huge opportunity. The opportunity to draw closer to Jesus. The opportunity to allow Him to shine His light into our lives. The opportunity to follow Him once more through life and receive the light that gives life. True life, abundant life, just as He promised.

Think about it, there can be no life on this earth without light. If the sun didn’t rise again tomorrow or the next day, pretty soon we, together with everyone and everything else on the planet, would be dead.

Grab the opportunity. Jesus is the light of the world. In Him, you will have light that gives you life.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
