Not Enough Power

Mark 5:36,39 But Jesus did not care what the men said. He said to the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid; just believe ... He entered the house and said, “Why are you people crying and making so much noise? This child is not dead. She is only sleeping.”

You know how it is – you’re confronted with a problem, an obstacle, that seems completely insurmountable, you wish you could believe that Jesus could help you … but somehow, in that moment, you don’t seem to be able to muster up enough faith.

Have you ever looked at a tough situation that you’re facing head on – a difficult relationship, money problems, or health concerns … and as you look at this PROBLEM you think to yourself, “Not even God could fix this.”? Ever been there?

The last few days we’ve been spending time with Jesus, a huge crowd, Jairus the synagogue leader whose daughter was on her death bed and a pesky, smelly woman who reached out and touched Jesus.

Jairus fell down at Jesus’ feet, begging Him to come and heal his dying daughter. But Jesus is distracted by this pushy woman who came to be healed. That takes time.

Meanwhile, the news comes that Jairus’ daughter has died. How did Jairus feel in that moment? Angry with that woman? Let down by God?  Powerless, lost, bereft?  If only …you and I both know that feeling.

Mark 5:36,39 But Jesus did not care what the men said. He said to the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid; just believe … He entered the house and said, “Why are you people crying and making so much noise? This child is not dead. She is only sleeping.”

And as you read the rest of the story, you discover that Jesus did indeed raise the girl back to life.

What is it that makes us think that this Jesus who created the whole universe doesn’t have the power to deal with our problems, however insurmountable they may appear?

Listen … Jesus never berated anyone for having too much faith in Him. Not once!

Don’t be afraid; just believe

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
