Staying on Course

Luke 4:42-44 The next day Jesus went to a quiet place to be alone. The people looked for him. When they found him, they tried to stop him from leaving. But he said to them, "I must tell the Good News about God's kingdom to other towns too. This is why I was sent." Then Jesus told the Good News in the synagogues in Judea.

One of the most difficult things to do in this digital, oh-so-connected age in which we live, is to stay focussed. To stay on course, to stay on track, to run the race that Jesus has set out, specifically, for you!

I don’t know about you, but I find that there are so many distractions in this world. These days, pretty much everybody at the bus stop, on the train, at home in their living room, has their face buried in a smartphone screen.

There are so many things pulling you in this direction and that. How do you stay focused on what God’s calling you to do? It seems that in this day and age, one of the things that is in incredibly short supply, is quiet time. Time disconnected from the world, and connected, instead, consciously, to God. But it doesn’t have to be so.

Luke 4:42-44 The next day Jesus went to a quiet place to be alone. The people looked for him. When they found him, they tried to stop him from leaving. But he said to them, “I must tell the Good News about God’s kingdom to other towns too. This is why I was sent.” Then Jesus told the Good News in the synagogues in Judea.

It seems that distractions were a thing, even back in Jesus’ day. People wanted Jesus to do things, and to be things, that His Father in heaven didn’t necessarily want Him to do.

So, how did He keep on track? How did He know to go to the next village and the next, rather than to stay a little longer in this place, like the people begged Him to do?

The next day Jesus went to a quiet place to be alone.

Find your quiet place. Be alone with Jesus. Today, the next day, every day.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
