The Lord Gives You Understanding

Ephesians 3:18,19 And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love—how wide, how long, how high, and how deep that love is. Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with everything God has for you.

A friend in need is a friend indeed. There’s nothing like having someone you can rely on, someone in your corner, someone who loves you and cares for you, when you’re in a dark place. Nothing!

I remember when I was in a dark place almost thirty years ago – so dark that I seriously contemplated ending it all – God placed some wonderful people around me. But even they weren’t able to reach deep down into my soul to take away my pain. It was in that place that I encountered Jesus for the first time. He was the one light that shone consistently in that inky-black darkness.

Let’s take a look at the second part of Paul’s prayer for his friends …

Ephesians 3:18,19 And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love—how wide, how long, how high, and how deep that love is. Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with everything God has for you.

What an over-the-top prayer!

Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love.

That’s my prayer for you too. Because I can tell you, in those dark places in which we sometimes find ourselves, the knowledge of the unknowable vastness of God’s love for you in Jesus Christ is the one thing, the only thing, that can heal you of your pain.

May He give you the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love for you!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
