The Making of You
James 1:2-3 My brothers and sisters, you will have many kinds of trouble. But this gives you a reason to be very happy. You know that when your faith is tested, you learn to be patient in suffering.
Have you ever faced a challenge so overwhelming that it felt as though it would crush you? A sickness. A loss. A failure. A betrayal. A financial crisis. A relationship breakdown. Some giant stands before you blocking your way and everything inside you wants to run. Yet sometimes, the very giants we fear are the tools God uses to prepare us for what comes next.
Nineteenth-century China missionary Hudson Taylor faced giants of his own. He battled illness, endured the death of his wife and children, and was ridiculed for adopting Chinese dress and customs. His mission teetered on collapse more than once.
Yet, through those very trials, God was shaping him. Out of his hardship came the China Inland Mission, sending thousands of missionaries and reaching millions with the Gospel. The giants in his life prepared him for the purpose God had written for him.

And that’s the point. Giants aren’t punishment. They’re preparation. They carve us, strengthen us, and ready us for the calling God has placed on our lives. When God wanted to make a king out of David, He didn’t hand him a crown. He gave him Goliath.
So let me ask you – what giant are you facing today? Instead of despairing, what if you trusted God to use it? Because in His hands, your greatest challenge may just be the making of you.
