When We Fall, He Stands

2 Timothy 2:13 If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful, because he cannot be false to himself.

We don’t like to admit it, but moral failure runs closer to home than we’d care to think. Whether it’s a secret habit, a harsh word, or a moment of weakness – we’ve all disappointed God and ourselves. At which point shame whispers that maybe this time, we’ve gone too far.

In the late 1980s, American televangelist Jimmy Swaggart’s spectacular moral collapse shocked the world. His ministry crumbled overnight. Many wrote him off completely. But in the years that followed, through tears, repentance, and humility, Swaggart slowly rebuilt his life before God. The crowds never returned the same way – but grace did.

When you think about it, there’s a real tension between our inevitable human failures and God’s divine faithfulness. At what point have we gone too far? At what point have we fallen so far that God wouldn’t bother to come and find us, to save us, to lift us up again?

The Apostle Paul understood that tension all too well when he wrote these words to his protégé Timothy:

2 Timothy 2:13 If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful, because he cannot be false to himself.

Let’s get this straight: God’s character doesn’t wax and wane with our behaviour. He never excuses sin – but neither does He abandon the sinner who turns back to Him. His faithfulness is rooted in who He is, not in what we’ve done. That’s why Jesus died for you! He paid the price … for you.

So if you’ve fallen – if you’ve failed in some private way – don’t run away from Him. Run toward Him.

Because the God who called you still loves you, still waits for you, and still knows that His strength will rise again in your weakness. He hasn’t walked away … and He never will.

Because that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
