When You Feel Outnumbered

1 Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

You’ve been there – standing in a room where everyone disagrees with you. The pressure’s thick, the voices loud, and suddenly, courage feels like a luxury you simply can’t afford. Being outnumbered isn’t just difficult … it’s terrifying.

Back in 1989, an unknown young man – now remembered simply as ‘Tank Man’ – stepped onto Tiananmen Square in Beijing. A column of tanks rumbled toward him. He had no weapons, no allies, just two shopping bags and a stubborn conviction that what was happening was wrong.

For a few unforgettable moments, the entire world watched this one man face down an empire … and refuse to move. That’s what courage looks like – when conscience speaks louder than fear.

A few thousand years earlier, another young man stood outnumbered on a battlefield. David, a shepherd boy, faced the giant Goliath while Israel’s army trembled in fear.

He didn’t have armour or a sword – only his faith and a slingshot that he’d used to protect his father’s sheep from predators. He looked that giant in the eye and said,

1 Samuel 17:45 You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. (ESV)

And with one stone, the giant fell.

Hopefully, you’ll never be required to face tanks or giants, but you will face pressure – to compromise, to stay silent, or to shrink back. Stand anyway.

Because courage isn’t found in numbers. It’s found in knowing that when God stands with you, it’s the enemy who’s outnumbered, not you.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
