The Strength to Endure

Hebrews 12:3 Think about Jesus. He patiently endured the angry insults that sinful people were shouting at him. Think about him so that you won’t get discouraged and stop trying.

There comes a point in everyone’s life when strength runs out, when the prayers don’t seem to work, the waiting feels endless, and quitting sounds eminently reasonable. That’s the moment when real courage begins – the courage to endure.

In the 1600s, a young Quaker woman named Mary Dyer refused to deny her faith in Jesus. At the time, the Massachusetts Bay Colony had banned Quakers – imprisoning, whipping, even executing them for their beliefs.

Mary was arrested multiple times and ordered to stay silent about her faith. But she couldn’t. Her conscience wouldn’t let her. When given the chance to save her life by renouncing her beliefs, she said, “In obedience to the will of the Lord, I came … and in His will I abide faithful to the death.” She was hanged on Boston Common in 1660.

That’s endurance – not noise or fame, but steadfast love for God that refuses to turn back.

Hebrews 12:3 Think about Jesus. He patiently endured the angry insults that sinful people were shouting at him. Think about him so that you won’t get discouraged and stop trying.

Jesus knows what it is to suffer for truth. Betrayed, beaten, mocked, crucified – yet He endured, because love compelled Him. So when you feel exhausted, unseen, or tempted to quit, remember Mary Dyer. Remember Jesus.

Because real courage isn’t always loud – sometimes it’s simply refusing to stop trusting when every reason says you should. And that kind of endurance never goes unseen in heaven.

Think about Jesus. Think about him so that you won’t get discouraged and stop trying.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
