You Can Make a Powerful Difference

Matthew 7:7,8 Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them.

With so much suffering, so much poverty, so much sickness, so much exploitation going on in the world today, it’s easy to come to the conclusion that you and I can’t possibly make a difference. But nothing could be further from the truth.

It’s estimated that today there are over 300,000 child soldiers serving in armed conflicts around the world. These are boys and girls, some as young as 8, fighting on front lines, participating in suicide missions, acting as spies, being forced into sexual slavery. Most were recruited by force.

A friend of mine from Liberia spent time on the run from being conscripted into a rebel army back when he was a teenager. He fled and hid in the jungle, only just avoiding capture, even living in an old car for a year.

It makes your heart ache to know that this is still happening today. And it’s easy to feel helpless. Now, by all means, we should speak up. By all means we should lend financial support where we can. Absolutely! But the single, most powerful thing we can do, you and I, for these incredible numbers of exploited, disadvantaged children who live in such danger, is to pray. I don’t mean that in some lame, useless way. Like Jesus, I mean it in a powerfully, faith-filled way.

Matthew 7:7,8 Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them.

And every now and then, God opens a door for us to make a difference. When we pray and walk through that door, Jesus does amazing things.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
