Obedience or Illusion?
Luke 6:46 Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but you don’t do what I say?
Every day we’re told to “follow your heart.” It sounds freeing, fantastic – until your heart leads you into something dangerous. Deep down, even the most independent soul still obeys something: desire, fear, money, approval. The question isn’t whether we obey, but who or what we obey.
Just imagine a pilot ignoring the control tower. He believes the instructions are good – he just doesn’t follow them. No matter how sincere he feels, the outcome’s the same: disaster. Belief without obedience still crashes the plane.
And hey, we want to do that with God all the time. We say, “Lord, I trust You,” but we keep flying by instinct – holding onto our grudges, our comfort, our control, our right to do it our way.
Then we wonder why the faith we talk about crashes in a heap. Jesus said:
Luke 6:46 Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but you don’t do what I say?
That wasn’t meant as a rebuke – it was an invitation. Real faith listens and follows. Real love says, “Yes, Lord,” even when obedience costs. Obedience isn’t about earning God’s approval. It’s the evidence that we already have it. It’s how love breathes.
So when God prompts you – to forgive the person who wronged you, to give what feels way too much, to walk away from the thing that’s slowly crushing your soul – don’t hesitate, don’t delay, don’t waver.
You don’t need to understand the whole plan. You just need to trust the One giving the instruction.
Because the faith that obeys may well tremble, but it’ll never crash and burn. And know this: every act of obedience moves you from an empty belief … into a living, breathing faith.
Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but you don’t do what I say?
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
