Pasteur’s Discovery

It’s not uncommon to hear people pit science against faith – as though you have to choose. But what if that’s a false choice? What if truth in creation and truth in Christ belong to the same story?
Nineteenth-century chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur revolutionised medicine with his work on germs, vaccines, and pasteurisation. His discoveries have saved millions of lives. And yet, for him, science wasn’t the enemy of faith.
He once said, “A little science distances you from God, but a lot of science brings you nearer Him.” The deeper he studied, the more he saw design, order, and wisdom – signs pointing him back to the Creator. For Pasteur, science didn’t erode belief; it deepened it. Writes the psalmist:

Creation itself is the testimony. To explore it isn’t to walk away from God, but to discover Him more fully. Science tries to answer the “what” and the “how,” while faith reveals the “who” and the “why.”
Together, they draw us into the wonder of a God who both made and sustains all things.
Don’t buy into the lie that you have to choose between believing the Bible and respecting science. The same God who spoke galaxies into being also entered history in Jesus to redeem us. Truth belongs to Him – wherever it’s found.
So, the next time you marvel at a scientific breakthrough or gaze up at the night sky, remember: it all points back to the same Author. Science and faith aren’t enemies. They’re chapters in one great story – His story.
